The arcuate Worumba Anticline (Spry, 1952) is a major regional structure centred some 20 km east of Hawker (Fig. 1).- Its eastern flank is gently dipping, and comprises the Sturtian to early Marinoan Umberatana Group, (while the Torr.ensian>to Sturt-iah Burra; and. Umberatana Groups form its steeply dipping "west- limb. The core of the Worumba Anticline has previously been termed the "Worumba Diapir" (Coats, 1964; Dalgarno § Johnson, 1966), but more detailed mapping (Preiss, 1978, 1979) has shown that it comprises a complexly deformed but only partially disrupted sedimentary sequence, with discrete but subordinate bodies of intrusive carbonate breccia. .
