SADME Toodla 1 stratigraphic/exploration well was drilled near the south-western margin of the Eromanga Basin, at a site 18 km ENE of Mount Dutton, in the area between SADME reflection seismic survey shotpoints DK6 and DK7 located at the northern end of the Peake and Denison Ranges. The prime objective was to core a complete section through the Mesozoic sedimentary sequence in an area which had little previous hydrocarbon exploration history. A secondary objective was to identify and core underlying ?Permian (or older) sedimentary rocks. Organic geochemical studies of samples of the thick Bulldog Shale, overlying the target Cadna-owie Formation and Algebuckina Sandstone artesian aquifers encountered by this well, indicate that marginal source rock potential and moderate oil shale potential in Cretaceous shales of this type may be developed deeper in the basin. The well partly delineated a western limit to prospective Permian strata of the Pedirka Basin, while the identification of a prominent seismic reflector present beneath the C-Horizon as representing an ?Ordovician economic basement unit will assist in the future correlation of seismic data in the region. Status: dry - plugged and abandoned. GL 96.7 metres, KB 97.7 m AHD. Total depth: 354 m KB.
