An abandoned quarry, 9 km NW of Tumby Bay, was mapped and surveyed. It is sited on the equivalent of the Katunga Domomite, part of the Hutchison Group of Middle Proterozoic age. The marble was isoclinally folded and metamorphosed to granulite facies, but retrograded to greenschist facies by later metamorphism. It is suitable for exposed aggregate, but is less suitable as a sealing aggregate or carving stone owing to its medium to coarse grain size. Closely spaced jointing and colour variations exclude possible use as a building stone.
