From 1973 - 1978, 2000 tonnes of barite were produced from Bairstow Lodes and 16 tonnes in 1966 from nearby Tom Hill Lode. The lodes were mapped, surveyed and sampled. The steep barite lodes have formed in a fractured zone which cuts the enclosing Tapley Hill Formation shale, part of the Umberatana Group. The sediments comprise a raft whithin the Oraparinna Diapir. Most of the ore meets specifications for oil drilling grade. However, only small amount of selected barite would meet industrial grade specifications. 13000 tonnes of barite is inferred to depths up to 10 metres for Bairstow Lodes and 3000 for Tom Hill Lode.
