Detailed water well survey was undertaken to provide base line data on the groundwater resources for future dewatering operations. 196 wells were visited of which 35% have been backfilled, 31% are not used and 34% are in use. The dominant use is for stock watering. The groundwater is extracted dominantly from confined Tertiary aquifers, probably within the Rogue Formation, with some use of minor Quaternary aquifers adjacent to the Wakefield River. Groundwater movement is in W to SW direction and may be affected by regional faulting. Salinity increases to the west.
