The Carnot Gneisses form an extensive layered sequence that crops out in southernmost Eyre Peninsula. They consist of garnetiferous quartzofeldspathic gneiss, hypersthene gneiss, granitic gneiss and basic granulite. Rb/Sr whole rock studies indicate a Late Archaean to Early Proterozoic metamorphic age for these gneisses. It is proposed that the Carnot Gneisses compose part of the Sleaford Complex.
