Sources of hard rock are restricted. Deposits of limestone and silicified sandstone are significant because of their proximity to Renmark and Berri. The present competition for these resources should be resolved by reserving an appropriate area from the Mining Act for exclusive use of local Councils. Concrete sand in the study area underlies overburden and represents future alternative source of concrete fine aggregate to current site in the Murray River cliffs. Drilling is required to define areas with least overburden. Guidelines for the selection working and rehabilitation of limestone and other pits are provided.
