Initial geochemical investigations of Munkarie 1, integrated with analyses of cuttings from basal Hutton Sandstone to upper Epsilon Formation, suggested that conventionally defined units may exhibit trace element signatures and that the Toolachee Formation may be subdivided on the basis of its geochemistry. Significant geochemical boundaries reasonably coincide in most cases with formation boundaries, but in other cases the stratigraphic sequence could be subdivided without reference to conventional units. Further work is recommended to establish reference profile for comparison of geochemical facies with lithofacies.
