The Marla Group and its units are defined, including redefinition of Mount Johns Conglomerate and Trainor Hill Sandstone. Recurrent tectonic rejuvenation of highlands in the north, during the Cambrian - Ordovician, led to deposition of fluvial conglomerates and sandstones which fine southwards to intertongue with shallow marine or lacustrine sediments. The Marla Group was folded slightly and partly eroded prior to deposition in the Early Ordovician of the overlying Munda Sequence, which commenced with the Byilkaoora Formation (new name), a fluvial sequence which passes up into the Mount Chandler Sandstone (redefined).
