Analyses of key benthonic and planktonic foraminifera from this thin transgressive deposit, and of boundary criteria, indicate a date close to the Janjukian / Longfordian Australian Stage boundary, and close to the international Oligocene / Miocene boundary. It corresponds to the basal part of the nearby type section of Mannum Formation.
