As part of the Department's monitoring of groundwater usage and salinity changes over time in the southern Murray Basin region, 700 water wells were visited and located. Groundwater is available from an unconfined Tertiary - Quaternary aquifer, which is separated from the underlying confined Dilwyn Formation aquifer by a bed of lignitic clay.
