The trench from Moomba gasfield was examined to 20 km south. The sediments were alluvial quartz sand occupying a flood plain between sand ridges, and may be of Pleistocene to Holocene age, possibly equivalent to Tingana Clay. A carbonate palaeosol has developed within the sediments.
