Water budget and salt balance studies indicate deterioration in water quality with time since there is now no natural outflow for the confined groundwater. A controlled well recharge experiment using water from Lake Alexandrina with 2 injection and 3 pumpout cycles showed injection is practical, but there is irreversible decrease in well efficiency.
