Carbonate carbon and to a lesser extent organic carbon are persistent in their pattern of vertical distribution regardless of structural position. Detailed correlations may be made across the SE of the basin. Idealised chemostratigraphic successions are proposed, which although generally reflecting the accepted stratigraphic rock units, are in detail different. Analytical methods included elemental carbon analysis, carbonate carbon contents and organic carbon analysis.
