The Arckaringa Basin is closely related to the Pedirka, Cooper and Galilee Basins, all of which first received glacigene sediments in the Late Carboniferous with subsequent accumulation of coal measures in the Early Permian. Well preserved microfloras from the Arckaringa Basin allow the recognition of 7 biostratigraphic datums which should provide the basis of an improved palynostratigraphy. The succession is useful reference for the Carboniferous / Permian boundary in Australia. Correlation with Tasmanian based stages is advocated.
