Tertiary palaeochannel containing North Maslins Sands is incised in Cambrian - Precambrian bedrock, capped by clays and lignite. Investigations by gravity and seismic surveys and rotary drilling, have reduced the potential of the channel as an underground gas storage reservoir. Further work is not recommended in the Port Gawler area, but should be undertaken in the Saint Kilda area, where similar palaeochannels may exist.
