The geology is reviewed, with emphasis on exposure and surface expression of the basin and regional geological mapping aspects. Prior to 1978, the term Great Artesian Basin was used to refer to the Eromanga Basin in SA. Discusses early contributions and current stratigraphic nomenclature. It is recommended that Marree Subgroup refer to the sequence in the original Marree Formation, with the exception of the basal Trinity Well Sandstone Member.
