The fully rotary cored Oakvale 1 vertical stratigraphic drillhole was drilled by SADME Regional Geology Branch, 13 km east of Oakvale Station homestead in the north of the Murray Basin within SA, over the period 22/5/1981 to 10/6/1981. The hole was terminated at 175.68 metres depth within ?Adelaidean shale, (intercept thickness 21.71 metres), that is overlain by Palaeocene to Oligocene Warina Sand (28.39 metres) Oligocene - Miocene Geera Clay (fossiliferous black clay), (93.41 metres), Late Pliocene ?Parilla Sand (29.17 metres) and Quaternary sand and calcrete (3 metres).
