Investigation of part of the nose of the Mount Grainger Anticline where minor gold and copper occurrences are known, and anomalous Au, Cu, Pb, Zn, Co, Mn, Ba and Fe values have been detected by stream sediment surveys. 692 soil and 63 rock chip samples were collected. At Mount Grainger Goldfield, gold occurs in hydrothermal quartz veins, concentrated in a basal sandstone of the Appila Tillite. Cobalt is a possible pathfinder element for gold. Sampling of quartz veins for gold and cobalt, and follow-up rock chip sampling is recommended for sandstone quartzite beds of Appila Tillite, and over Co, Cu and Pb-Zn anomalies. These beds are analogous to quartz pebble conglomerate-type gold deposits.
