Nephrite jade was formed in complex composite gneiss terrain by reaction of migrating silica with dolomitic marble at or near base of Hutchison Group during late stage folding of Kimban Orogeny. The larger of 112 known outcrops is conformable with lithological layering, is up to 65 metres long and 3 metres wide, and grade into coarse - grained tremolite schist, talc schist and massive talc - tremolite - chlorite rock. Darkness of colour related to iron content (up to 7.9% Fe2O3). Estimated 1028 tonnes mined mainly from 9 outcrops .
