112 wells (13380 metres) were drilled to search for fractured rock aquifers and 14 of these were completed as production wells. At Windy Creek wells were drilled in quartzite and weathered pellet conglomerate aquifers, capable of supplying all of Leigh Creeks needs for desalination feed water for at least 2 years. Cambrian limestones and ABC Range Quartzite are capable of high well yields.
