Diverse palynomorph assemblages were recovered from Wilkinson 1 and are correlated with the latest Eocene Sparganiaceaepollenites barungensis Zone (Harris 1971) in South Australia and the upper Nothofagidites asperus Zone (Stover and Partridge 1973) in the Gippsland Basin. Locally, the Pidinga Formation was deposited under terrestrial conditions characterized by plant associations growing in a high rainfall, tropical to subtropical environment. The drilling of this hole was terminated at 710 m depth, within the Cambrian Observatory Hill Beds.
