Study of artificial recharge to reduce desalination costs and extend the life of existing or proposed well fields included microcomputer modelling of the operation of Aroona Reservoir under various recharge systems and simulation of the effect of increasing demand. Utilizing excess capacity in pipelines could provide savings in desalination costs and reduce risk of extending pipelines to other aquifers. High capacity pipeline is not justified at present but further modelling of intakes is advisable if demand increases.
