Stockpiles of tailings from abandoned gold mines are small and probably do not warrant retreatment individually. Total of 71 000 tonnes of tailings are at Government Battery sites at Mount Torrens, Peterborough, Glenloth, Tarcoola and Mongolata. The largest is 29 250 tonnes at Tarcoola. All sites except Mongolata are reserved from operations of Mining Act 1971 as amended. Waukaringa gold mine 30 km north of Yunta has 40 000 tonnes at 3 g/t Au and the Tarcoola Blocks mine has 29 100 tonnes at 1.88 g/t Au. At Bird in Hand mine near Woodside, 30 000 tonnes of tailings at 1.7 g/t Au are within the watershed and cannot be retreated on site. Small stockpiles, all less than 10 000 tonnes are located at Ajax, Mount Grainger, Nillinghoo, Virginia, New Milo, Great Eastern, Westward Ho, Homeward Bound, Baratta, Kitticoola, Deloraine and Kings Bluff gold mines.
