Cornerstone quarry, 180 km NE of Adelaide, was excavated in Miocene Morgan Limestone in the northern bank of the Murray River for building stone to construct the Overland Corner Hotel in 1858. From 1945 to 1958, 6 000 tonnes of ashlars were produced for buildings in the Riverland. It is yellow - brown, friable, massive limestone containing abundant shells overlain by up to 7 metres of overburden. Future development should be restricted for restoration of existing historic buildings. The site enhances the nearby Overland Corner Historic Hotel and incorporation of the quarry with appropriate signposting into the Historic Museum is recommended.
