A proposed waste disposal site near Waterloo Corner was assessed for groundwater pollution potential. 3 existing and operating waste disposal sites are contributing minor levels of contaminants to shallow, highly saline groundwater. High clay content soils, alkaline conditions and low groundwater gradients mitigate against widespread groundwater contamination. A 9 hole groundwater monitoring network will provide information adequate to give sufficient warning should unexpected pollution occur.
