These 2 largest mines on the goldfield, reportedly treated 54 810 and 2 302 tonnes of ore on site during the late nineteenth century, and 3 789 tonnes of ore from the Alma battery. Based on survey and sampling programme in 1983 a minimum 37 710 tonnes at 2.71 g/t Au was indicated at Alma - Victoria and 1 080 tonnes at 1.94 g/t Au at Alma Extended. Low grade ore dumps were not included. Subsequent sampling in 1984 and 1986 indicated grade and tonnage are 43 250 tonnes at 3.0 g/t Au at Alma - Victoria and 1 420 tonnes at 1.8 g/t Au at Alma Extended. Further sampling and surveys are needed. The mines are located on the northern margin of the Waukaringa Syncline, where stratabound auriferous quartz veins occur in Cox Sandstone Member at the base of the Tapley Hill Formation immediately overlying the Tarcowie Siltstone.
