12 sections were measured through the Skillogalee Dolomite, and partly into adjacent Burra Group and Umberatana Group. Skillogalee Dolomite thickness varies from 827 metres in the East Willouran Ranges to 3921 metres near Mt Norwest. Very rapid vertical alternation of facies, on the decimetre to metre scale includes dolomitic and siliclastic sandstones and siltstones, cryptalgal laminated and stromatolitic beds, and intraclastic dolomite and magnesite beds. Deposition occurred in narrow, NW trending graben, in which shallow sheet-like deposition occurred concomitant with subsidence. Rapid water level fluctuations resulted in innumerable transgressions and regressions.
