Coarse, quartz sand within Early Pleistocene, Blanchetown Clay, has been mined for construction sand near Waikerie, with overburden of Bakara Soil which was used for road construction. Production totals 685 tonnes of construction sand, mined in 1980-1981. Sand would require removal of excess fines and carbonate cemented aggregates to meet specifications for concrete sand. This unit overlies clean, finer sand, suitable for plaster or packing sand. Within the scraped area indicated reserves total 24 000 tonnes of construction sand and 14 000 tonnes of finer sand.
