Copper ore from Wallaroo and Moonta mines was treated by sulphide flotation at Devon Concentrating Plant between 1911 and 1923 with tailings stored on site. From 1970 to 1981 up to 303 727 tonnes of tailings were retreated for copper and gold content. An indicated 968 500 tonnes of tailings containing 193.7 kg of gold (average grade 0.20 g/t Au) and 4 939 tonnes of copper (average grade 0.51% Cu) remain on site. Cyanidation could extract 40.4% of contained gold without grinding.
