Bulgunnia 1 tested acid and basic volcanics, extruded from an adjacent major fracture, that are interbedded with a probable coarse-grained breccia. Bulgunnia 2 tested a sedimentary breccia with possible volcanic interbeds. The project aimed to encourage company exploration in shallow basement, predominantly in the mid-Proterozoic sediments that were deposited adjacent to active faults with associated subaerial or submarine volcanic vents. Bulgunnia 1 and 2 were spudded on 17.2.1986 and 10.3.1986 respectively. RESULTS: The granitic breccia in Bulgunnia 1 is interlayered with acid volcanics, volcanic breccia and fine sediments, and contains anomalous barium, antimony and bismuth. A tuffaceous rhyolite intersected in Bulgunnia 2 also contains anomalous barium and fluorite. The sediments and interbedded volcanics are prospective for Olympic Dam style mineralisation.
