The mine is the State's major producer of industrial grade barite, with total output of 270 000 tonnes from 1940 to 1986. Barite is hosted by Late Proterozoic Brachina Formation siltstone within a sedimentary graben, structurally controlled by the Oraparinna Diapir. Barite infills open tensional shears, cross cutting bedding and parallel to the graben axial plan, striking NE and nearly vertical. Barite veins in the Oraparinna Mine are 250 metres long and average 1 to 1.5 metres wide. Lode intersections and terminations defining the overall shape of the orebody plunge 45 degrees NE.
