Discovered in 1889, Great Eastern goldmine, part of the New Milo - Virginia line of lode, has a recorded production of 212.85 tonnes of ore which yielded 4 333.56 grams of gold bullion. No records exist of ore treated through the battery erected on site between 1914-1918 or 1895-1896 when it was operated by New Milo Company. On site are 200 tonnes of tailings containing 3.5 g/t Au, 320 ppm Cu, 1.3% Pb, 1080 ppm Zn, 1230 ppm As and 7 ppm Ag in 4 separate stockpiles. Most of the tailings have previously been moved to New Milo for cyaniding. Tonnage is insufficient to warrant treatment of the tailings on their own. However, they could be treated with New Milo and Virginia stockpiles giving a combined total of 15 000 tonnes at 2.2 g/t Au.
