A series of arcuate beach ridges, lie within 1 km of the coastline between Port Germein and Tickera. These Holocene ridges range in age from 4400 years to present and are composed of shell fragments. Sporadic production from Hundreds Pirie and Wandearah since 1907 totals115 635 tonnes mainly for use as limestone flux. Auger drilling of 309 holes has outlined total reserves of 26.5 million tonnes of shell grit with all but 3.2 million tonnes lying within the 800 metre coastal zone.
