Stream erosion has exposed a reverse fault near Cambrai on the Milendella escarpment, indicating a compressive component to the uplift of the ranges. Cambrian rocks have been thrust over Pleistocene fanglomerates and Miocene limestone has been dragged up along the fault zone which may indicate the reactivation of a compressive Palaeozoic fault during the Cainozoic. Diagnostic foraminifera identified in the Early Miocene Mannum Formation adds credence to the view that the position of the limestone on the escarpment is due to tectonic uplift since the Miocene, rather than that the limestone is Morgan Limestone, elevated largely due to eustatic effects.
