The groundwater resources of a 20 km wide strip of land in each state along the SA-Vic border is jointly managed by both states. This Designated Area is divided into 22 management Zones and each state is required to limit groundwater withdrawals to the Permissible Annual Volume set for each Zone. A re-assessment of groundwater availability for Zones 4A to 7A based on results of a detailed hydrogeological study is presented. The study defined the nature of the unconfined aquifer, determined aquifer recharge rates and continued monitoring of groundwater levels and quality. Drilling and aquifer testing programmes were undertaken.
