Three shallow fully cored stratigraphic holes were drilled in 1985 by the SADME Regional Geology Branch to gather subsurface information for inclusion on the CURDIMURKA 1:250000 geological map describing stratigraphy on the southern margin of the Eromanga Basin, where the cover units are thin and overlie Adelaidean sedimentary bedrock. Finniss 2, nearest the edge of the outcropping Mesozoic sequence SE of Hermit Hill, bottomed in Adelaidean marble without encountering the artesian aquifer, demonstrating that the basal sandstone units (Algebuckina Sandstone and Cadna-owie Formation) may be absent over some buried basement highs.
