Cyanidation of tailings from ore crushed at the Government Stamp Battery at Peterborough ceased in 1964. Previously cyanided tailings stockpiled between 1897 and 1964 contain 5 020 tonnes averaging 3.2 g/t gold (total gold content 16 162 grams)....

Cyanidation of tailings from ore crushed at the Government Stamp Battery at Peterborough ceased in 1964. Previously cyanided tailings stockpiled between 1897 and 1964 contain 5 020 tonnes averaging 3.2 g/t gold (total gold content 16 162 grams). No metallurgical testing was undertaken. An estimated 3 700 tonnes of uncyanided tailings averaging 5.3 g/t gold (total gold content 19 670 grams) are also stockpiled. Previous work on the uncyanided tailings indicated 70-90% gold recovery after 48 hours cyanidation without additional grinding. Total tailings remaining are estimated at 8 720 tonnes averaging 4.1 g/t gold (total gold content 35 734 grams).
