The Cambro-Ordovician Black Hill Norite inlier protrudes through Tertiary marine sediments of the Murray Basin about 85 km east of Adelaide. Available evidence suggests that the complex may be a layered mafic-ultramafic intrusive suite with potential to host platinum group element (PGE) and chromite mineralisation. This data package summarises previous exploration work and includes aeromagnetic and geological maps, drill logs, geochemical data, petrology, geological appraisal of economic potential, and description of geological models of mineralisation in platinum group elements. Proposals for on-going exploration are also included. The exploration model now proposed is that outcrop at Black Hill represents the top of a large layered mafic-ultramafic intrusion, geologically similar to other PGE and chromium-bearing layered intrusions such as the Bushveld Complex (South Africa), Stillwater (USA), and Munni Munni (WA). The potential for mineralisation is based on the inlier's proven enhanced concentration in PGE and chromium, and on concepts of sulphur saturation, first and second stage melts, and partitioning coefficients.
