Some of the first dates from the Simpson / Tirari Desert are presented. It is argued that Late Pleistocene episodes of dune development are widespread, and may be at least as important as the Holocene episodes in depositing dune sediments and shaping landforms. Thus, the dunefield pattern was probably already in place by the end of the Pleistocene.
