Shallow penetration, high resolution seismic profiling, with simultaneous sea floor coring found large areas of sea floor to be barren of unconsolidated Holocene sediment, or to be unsuitable for beach replenishment. Four prospects are identified south of Hallett Cove which potentially contain 16 million cubic metres of suitable quartzose sand. More detailed surveys are required to better evaluate these prospects. A fifth prospect has been identified in Backstairs Passage.
