This study is part of a joint SADME / BMR study, and details exploration history and interpretation of the "outer" Duntroon Basin, tying in a previous regional interpretation of the Otway Basin to interpretations of co-workers in the Bight and "inner" Duntroon Basins. Five horizons have been mapped to portray the configuration of the Cainozoic and Mesozoic sediments. Depth and isopach maps are presented to show their regional structure. Several SE-trending accommodation zones have been interpreted, dislocating the E-W Southern Rift System. These zones have been used to redefine geological basins of the southern Australian continental margin. A series of E-W, en-echelon basement ridges, plunging to the west, divide the basin into an inner, half-graben zone and an outer, downfaulted zone extending southward to oceanic crust. Broad evaluation of the hydrocarbon potential of each zone, based on limited drillhole information, indicates that high potential play types occur in each zone which are worthy of more detailed company exploration. A compilation of data used in the study is discussed, and is partially included to assist explorers.
