Groundwater usage has increased substantially because of a change from dry-grown grape varieties to those needing irrigation. Regional dewatering caused by excessive extraction is unlikely because of the nature of the aquifers, but local usage disputes will increase. In view of the lack of a demonstrated desire for government intervention, together with a reasonably stable groundwater resource, imposed management is not recommended at present: however, self-management by the residents should be encouraged.
