Areas of high mineral potential within Adelaidean basement lying beneath deep Recent and Tertiary Murray Basin cover, have been interpreted in the poorly known Sandleton 1:50 000 map area. The interpretation has outlined the magnetic fabric, variously defining 7 magnetic subdomains; major tectonic structures, unconformities, lineaments, lineament corridors and a possible mega-suture; and the distribution of both granitic and basic/ultrabasic intrusions and basic volcanic units interbedded with the metasedimentary sequences. The magnetic interpretation was then integrated with revised regional Bouguer gravity contours in which were included some recent detailed gravity data. Computer modelling of four combined gravity - magnetic traverses has provided the data for interpreted cross-sections over the Stonefield and Long Ridge Granite batholiths and the Oak magnetic subdomain. Detailed modelling results of the Stonefield magnetic grid are presented. Sandleton has exploration potential for Sn, Mo, W, U, Th and Au within the numerous batholiths, with possible porphyry Cu+/-Mo deposits in the granitoids. The Kanmantoo Group metasediments and metavolcanics near the contact zones with the granitoids and concealed batholiths show petrophysical and petrological evidence for possible hydrothermal alteration. The numerous linear magnetic anomalies which are associated with the lineaments in these contact zones may be target zones for Sn, Mo, Au, Cu, U and Pb-Zn mineralisation. The volcanics and calc-silicate units of possible Kanmantoo Group warrant exploration for Pb-Zn-Cu Mount Torrens and Pipe Line Prospect - type stratabound mineralisation, which is concentrated within micro-folds in major folds. The Oaks magnetic subdomain warrants specific evaluation to define its precious metal and base metal potential. The region contains numerous basic to ultra-basic plugs. Their distribution is controlled either by lineament intersections or else they are aligned in major lineament corridors. The Truro lamprophyre suite is associated with NE-SW magnetic discontinuities. The magnetic doublets warrant evaluation for kimberlites with possible diamondiferous affinities. Numerous linear magnetic anomalies which are associated with major lineament corridors may be basic / ultrabasic dykes or sills with possible Ni-Cr-Au-Pt potential.
