The buried basement encountered at a site located 5 km west-southwest of Coomandook is similar to that sampled by CSR Ltd in the same area. Four selected drill core samples were examined in hand specimen and in thin section. Metabasaltic lava and pyroclastic flows contain oligoclase phenocrysts and a groundmass / matrix of chlorite, dolomite, leucoxenised sphene and epidote. Sulphide mineralisation is located in chlorite gangue associated with dolomitic veins and pods. Fragmented volcanic rocks are more often the host rocks to this hydrothermal mineralisation than are the lavas.
