For the past 30 years or more, much of the town water supply for Orroroo has come from wells that are completed in the confined aquifer of the Walloway Basin. The unconsolidated, fine, silty sands of this aquifer become mobile and have led to a history of technical problems in well development and reduced well stability. The Department of Mines and Energy has drilled six wells for town water supply purposes over the period 1969 to 1992.
