During the period September to December 1992, as part of the SA Exploration Initiative (SAEI), SADME completed an investigative drilling programme of concealed bedrock in the area of the Delamerian Bendigo Granite and surrounding metasediments of Adelaidean age, located to the south-east of the Nackara Arc. Drilling objectives included the granite margins and associated magnetic features, which were addressed by three long drill traverses plus several shorter drill traverses. 131 vertical reverse circulation (RC) drillholes with a total penetration of 8531.6 m were completed on the Caroona and Murkaby 1:100 000 mapsheet areas, at hole spacings of ~1 km, closing in to 500 m in some places. Ground magnetic surveys were recorded on all drill traverses, and ground gravity readings were also acquired. Basement drill cuttings geochemical sampling results indicate slightly anomalous Au, Cr, Cu, Mo and Pb associated with the granitoid rocks, which include mafic and felsic phases. Anomalous Au, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn are associated with a small altered diorite body to the west of Bendigo Homestead. Drilling of a magnetic feature extending south-southwest from the granite intrusion revealed a possible alteration zone, with anomalous As, Au, Co and Mn. The Pine Creek kimberlite area [sampled by holes CRN 55 and 56] is anomalous in Cr, Ni and Co.
