This report book discusses routine palynological processing techniques used in the extraction of pollen, spores and dinoflagellates from sediments. Processes include ample selection, HF treatment for the removal of mineral matter, HCl treatment for the digestion of carbonates, ultrasonic treatment for disaggregation, heavy liquid separations, Schulze solution and dry Schulze treatments for oxidizing, sieving, acetylation for cellulose removal, alkali treatments, slide making, and residue storage. Comments regarding the relative merits of some processing techniques and their effects on palynomorph preservation are given. Safety issues are discussed throughout the text and in the appendices.
