In order to investigate the geology and mineral potential of an area of shallowly-concealed basement with parallel N-S trending magnetic features, located in the Cummins - Yeelanna region of southern Eyre Peninsula, SADME over February-June 1993 completed a total of 26 stratigraphic RC drillholes in a NW-SE transect across it, encountering an intrusive sequence of folded Archaean - Palaeoproterozoic orthogneisses and granitoids. It is unknown at present whether this sequence is part of the Sleaford Complex (ca. 2700-2200 Ma) or part of the slightly younger Miltalie Gneiss (ca. 1990 Ma). Although base metal values in the sequence were low, several isolated Au anomalies (up to 12 ppb) were discovered. The Sleaford Complex and Miltalie Gneiss of the southern Gawler Craton have some prospectivity for gold mineralisation, possibly associated with minor late-stage fractures.
