Eight new groundwater wells were drilled near Angaston as part of an investigation into the recharge mechanisms of the Barossa Valleys aquifer systems. It is currently believed that rainfall permeates the hard rock complexes of the hills around Angaston, slowly migrating through a series of fractures and faults down to the lower aquifers of the Barossa Valley. The drilling program, implemented in two parts, saw the completion of four drill holes in Phase I at various locations around Angaston, and a further four wells in Phase II, which were drilled at one of the sites established during Phase I drilling. Nested piezometers were installed into the two deepest wells at this site following Phase II drilling.
